Overview
The CHERI platform ecosystem now spans prototype and commercial processor IP, released silicon, FPGA development boards, simulators and several software stacks. Options range from constrained CHERIoT systems to application-class CHERI-RISC-V and the Morello research platform.
A useful shortlist normally contains no more than two or three routes. Eliminate options that fail a mandatory workload, software or availability requirement, then compare the survivors using the same test and the same dated evidence. This prevents maturity labels from hiding an incompatible stack.
Best fit
The ecosystem is best understood as a matrix of workload, architecture, maturity and software support—not a single compatibility ladder.
What to evaluate
1. Embedded
CHERIoT cores, Sonata and ICENI address microcontroller and high-integrity embedded use cases.
2. Application class
Morello and CHERI-RISC-V processor or platform routes support richer OS and Linux- or BSD-oriented evaluation.
3. Virtual
QEMU, architectural models and FPGA systems make development possible before or without target silicon.
Check current status
Names and status change quickly. Check current product, supplier, release and support pages before procurement or public claims.
Verify availability, maturity, specifications, software support and lifecycle terms with the current platform owner before procurement.
