What you’ll do
Choose a CHERI platform by the task you need to complete: architectural learning, embedded prototyping, rich operating-system porting, application-class evaluation or product integration. Processor family alone is not enough.
Start with the smallest environment that can answer the next engineering question. A simulator may be enough for compiler work; a board matters when peripherals, timing or physical integration enter scope; processor IP and silicon become relevant when the route to a product must be costed.
Before you begin
The right platform reduces setup work and provides a credible path from experiment to the next decision.
Steps
1. Workload
List required compute, memory, peripherals, real-time behaviour and software dependencies.
2. Software
Check the supported ABI, operating system, compiler, debugger, libraries and documented build route.
3. Maturity
Distinguish simulators, FPGA platforms, demonstrator boards, released silicon and licensable IP; verify availability and support.
Check your result
Platform status changes. Confirm current supplier information, exact versions and the security properties implemented before committing a programme.
Record the architecture, platform, ABI, release, source revision and complete commands. A second developer should be able to reproduce the result.
