Code of Conduct

Help keep every Alliance-managed space welcoming, respectful and constructive.

Scope and status

This local page carries the substance of CHERI Alliance CIC Code of Conduct version 1.01, dated 14 April 2025. It applies to Alliance-managed chat, mailing lists, issue trackers, workshops, conferences, social events and other communication spaces, including written, spoken and visual material. Serious conduct outside those spaces may also affect participation.

This is a practical, self-contained summary. For a formal decision, verify the current version with the Alliance.

Expected conduct

  • Be friendly, patient and welcoming.
  • Be considerate of how decisions and communication affect other people.
  • Be respectful, including when technical or social views differ.
  • Choose words and images carefully and keep shared material suitable for a professional, international community.
  • Try to understand why another person holds a different view; focus on resolving the issue and learning from mistakes.

Unacceptable conduct

Harassment and exclusionary behaviour are not acceptable. This includes threats, discriminatory jokes or language, sexually explicit or violent material, publishing or threatening to publish personal information, personal insults, unwelcome sexual attention, or encouraging those behaviours. If someone asks you to stop behaviour that affects them, stop.

Report a concern

Use the Alliance contact route to reach the Code of Conduct team. Reports should be kept confidential. Include names or identifiers, when and where the incident happened, what occurred, witnesses, public records, relevant context and whether the issue is continuing—only where you feel comfortable doing so.

If anyone is in immediate physical danger, contact the appropriate emergency or law-enforcement service first. At an event, you can also speak to an organiser, member of staff or venue team.
